For countless Central Floridians, Shaniqua Rose’s impact on their lives cannot be understated. From her work with the City of Orlando to her current role with the Central Florida Urban League, Rose has dedicated her life to empowering and lifting up those who need it the most.
Behind the scenes at the Central Florida Urban League, Shaniqua works tirelessly overseeing two of the organization’s key empowerment programs: Microsoft Office Specialist Training Program and the Youth Navigator program. Although each initiative is tailored towards a different audience, they share the same goal: helping individuals better themselves and in turn, those around them.
“I love the community,” said Shaniqua. “I just want to bring about positive change amongst those who need it the most. If you are willing to put in the effort, I am willing to help.”
With that mindset, Shaniqua created Change for the Community, an organization that helps mentor youth, ensuring they remain on the right path, despite any nefarious influences that might surround them. In fact, this cause has become so important to Shaniqua that she plans to pursue it full-time in the coming months.
Keenly aware of what local youth need to improve their lives, Shaniqua works alongside a number of partners, such as the Orlando Police Department’s Youth Liaison team to identify young adults in need of a helping hand. With Shaniqua’s help, these youth receive mentorship that helps them develops life skills and practical skills.
And when the youth don’t come to her? Shaniqua goes to them. To ensure that every opportunity is provided to these young adults, Rose continuously visits local high schools to register students for paid summer internships.
“If we are going to fulfill the CFUL’s goal of ending generational poverty, we must begin by empowering our young adults,” added Shaniqua. “We must show our youth that we have faith in them and when possible, give them that extra boost to jumpstart their careers. If they begin their lives on the right path, then the opportunities that await them are endless.”
In recognition of her efforts in the community, Shaniqua was honored as a Community Hero by the Orlando Solar Bears as well as received the Getting Results award from Channel 6 News.
“I’m proud to have Shaniqua as a member of our team,” said Glenton Gilzean Jr., President and CEO of the Central Florida Urban League. “Her dedication to our youth is inspiring; we are all lucky that she is part of our community.”
