CFUL Announces New Small Business Initiative
Posted on News by Glenton Gilzean · November 02, 2016 10:16 AMORLANDO, NOVEMBER 2, 2016 - The Central Florida Urban League and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida are coming together to encourage and expand small business development in underserved communities."For the first time in the history of our organizations, we are working together for the greater good of all Central Floridians," said Glenton Gilzean Jr., President and C.E.O. of the Central Florida Urban League. "This is a fantastic initiative that will utilize the strengths of both organizations to ensure that those from underserved communities have every opportunity to succeed as entrepreneurs."Through the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, entrepreneurs will have access to mentors whom will encourage the proper development of their business. Furthermore, the joint program will offer entrepreneurs the necessary training, both in one-on-one and group settings, to familiarize themselves with the particulars of being a business owner and employer."The collaboration of our two well respected, historical Black organizations is significant," said John F. Davis, President of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida. "We are working together to build stronger families, individuals, businesses, and a more robust community, which is our purpose. Our leadership here at the Chamber is extremely enthusiastic about the many possibilities this partnership will bring."This initiative is a part of the CFUL's Center for Working Families, which is funded by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunities (DEO).In addition to small business development, the Center for Working Families provides Central Floridians with Comprehensive Housing Advising, Budget and Credit training, Foreclosure Prevention, Homeownership Preparation classes as well as a number of initiatives to encourage youth employability.For more information on the Center for Working Families, please visit: www.cful.org/cwf -
Governor Scott Appoints Glenton Gilzean to Judicial Nominating Commission
Posted on News by Glenton Gilzean · January 26, 2016 10:31 AMORLANDO, JANUARY 26, 2016 – The Central Florida Urban League (CFUL) is pleased to announce that Interim President and CEO Glenton Gilzean was recently appointed by Governor Rick Scott to serve on the Ninth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC).
Gilzean was one of several candidates considered by Governor Scott. In addition to his position as Interim President and CEO of the CFUL, Gilzean is a fellow with the James Madison Institute, a program that recognizes top leaders in the state of Florida. Prior to joining the CFUL, Gilzean served as a trustee for Florida A&M University and was a member of the Pinellas County School Board.
