  • CFUL Announces New Small Business Initiative

ORLANDO, NOVEMBER 2, 2016 - The Central Florida Urban League and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida are coming together to encourage and expand small business development in underserved communities.

"For the first time in the history of our organizations, we are working together for the greater good of all Central Floridians," said Glenton Gilzean Jr., President and C.E.O. of the Central Florida Urban League. "This is a fantastic initiative that will utilize the strengths of both organizations to ensure that those from underserved communities have every opportunity to succeed as entrepreneurs."

Through the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, entrepreneurs will have access to mentors whom will encourage the proper development of their business. Furthermore, the joint program will offer entrepreneurs the necessary training, both in one-on-one and group settings, to familiarize themselves with the particulars of being a business owner and employer.
"The collaboration of our two well respected, historical Black organizations is significant," said John F. Davis, President of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida. "We are working together to build stronger families, individuals, businesses, and a more robust community, which is our purpose. Our leadership here at the Chamber is extremely enthusiastic about the many possibilities this partnership will bring."

This initiative is a part of the CFUL's Center for Working Families, which is funded by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunities (DEO).

In addition to small business development, the Center for Working Families provides Central Floridians with Comprehensive Housing Advising, Budget and Credit training, Foreclosure Prevention, Homeownership Preparation classes as well as a number of initiatives to encourage youth employability.
