ORLANDO, FEBRUARY 5, 2016 – The Central Florida Urban League (CFUL) is proud to honor a number of individuals and corporations at the fourth annual Cornerstone Awards & Gala on Saturday, February 6 (6:30 p.m.), at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel (9939 Universal Blvd) in Orlando.
The annual event recognizes individuals and corporations whom have demonstrated a strong commitment to the values that the Central Florida Urban League holds dear.
Receiving the 2016 Bob Billingslea Legacy Award at the gala is the Honorable James E.C. Perry. Justice Perry has demonstrated his dedication to Central Florida through his staunch commitment to improving the lives of at-risk boys and girls. He also served as the captain of the Heart of Florida United Way Campaign and his firm acted as general counsel for the Florida Chapter Branches of the NAACP.
“Everyone that we are honoring has made significant contributions to the four cornerstones of the Central Florida Urban League,” said Glen Gilzean Jr., Interim President and C.E.O. of the Central Florida Urban League. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank you for what you’ve done and for what you will continue to do on behalf of those that need it the most.”
Pastor Derrick L. McRae from the Experience Christian Center will be honored with the Dorian Boyland Community Service Award for his annual Seasons Blessings holiday event.
Individual award recipients are: Deborah German from the UCF College of Medicine (Health Empowerment); Dr. Reginald Riley from Orlando Health (Personal Empowerment); Julia Johnson from NetCommunications (Economic Empowerment) and Terry Prather (Youth Empowerment).
Corporate award recipients are: Orlando Health (Health Empowerment); PepsiCo (Personal Empowerment); Fifth Third Bank (Economic Empowerment) and Walt Disney World Resorts (Youth Empowerment).
