The CFUL mourns the passing of Sybil Haydel Morial

The Central Florida Urban League would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the Morial family on the passing of family matriarch, Sybil Haydel Morial.

“Sybil Haydel Morial changed the face of New Orleans through her passion and activism,” said Paula Hoisington, Chairwoman of the Central Florida Urban League. “We all share the Morial family’s loss. Sybil dedicated her life to empowering the African American community and this legacy was passed onto her children, most notably Marc, who continues her fight to this day.”

“Sybil once wrote that ‘the barricade that kept us out of schools, jobs, restaurants, hotels, and even restrooms would have to be dismantled brick by brick, law by law’ and throughout her life, she sought to make this a reality,” added Hoisington.” “Sybil was able to see her community come full circle – from Jim Crow to both her husband and son being elected as Mayors of New Orleans. May her legacy live on for generations to come.”
